The V-beam laser is a brand of pulsed dye laser. This technology has been proven safe and effective for many years. It is used to treat red spots: such as broken capillaries, facial veins (including the sides of the nose!), "cherry" and "strawberry" growths (hemangiomas), and red scars from acne or from surgery or accidental trauma. It can also be used to treat more general or patchy redness from rosacea or sun damage. V-beam works best on red, pink, or purple areas. Most blue veins do not respond as well.
Usually, 2-3 treatments are required for best results, but some smaller areas can be successfully resolved with just one treatment. Treatments last between 10 and 30 minutes and can be performed every 6 to 8 weeks.
It hurts a little. The laser feels as though someone snapped a rubber band on your skin, but it is over with quickly. It can be reasonably compared to how laser hair removal feels. After your treatment, we will provide an ice pack to cool the area, and then for the remainder of your day it just feels and looks as though you had a sunburn.
V-beam laser treatments are extremely safe. You can expect mild redness and swelling of the treatment area for a few days. You will have to stay out of the sun. Mild bruising (purpura) on the skin may also be seen, and that just means that the laser worked properly and destroyed the blood vessels. Any bruising may be covered with make-up and usually lasts a few days.
